By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult is a fascinating work of historical fiction. The divided narrative moves back and forth between modern day New York and London in the 1600s. The young woman in New York tries to overcome prejudice against female playwrights and her distant ancestor must do the same. In both cases, they to allow a man to claim authorship of their work.
Bulu: African Wonder Dog by Dick Houston. A delightful non-fiction work about a couple who wants to open a bush hostel in Zambia. They adopt a dog which saves them, and they save it back.
